Utrecht streetcar attack

An attack took place in Utrecht on Monday morning, March 18, 2019, in which a man opened fire on random people on a streetcar in Utrecht.

On July 1, 2019, the defendant was required to appear in court for the first time. The court ruled that the defendant was required to be present at the pro forma hearing held on July 1, 2019. During the week of March 2, 2020, the case was heard in substance by the Utrecht District Court, which took a week. On March 20, 2020, the court did ruling.

The defendant was sentenced to life in prison. He was also found to have acted with terrorist intent. One of the victims, who is being assisted by Arlette Schijns, is relieved. All civil claims she and her loved ones filed in the criminal trial were also granted.
