Irene Timmermans gave a guest lecture on Feb. 17 at the University of Groningen, with the topic ‘Victims and Third Parties. The guest lecture was organized by the Department of Private Law, under the supervision of Arvin Kolder as coordinating lecturer.
The topic of third-party damages was explored, including discussion of expenses incurred by third parties for the benefit of the victim, the damages of the victim's next of kin or the victim's employer.
Also discussed was a third party's own right of action based on suffered affection damage. As of Jan. 1, 2019, there is a legal ground for claiming affection damages.
