Criminal Hearing Owner Biting Pitbull
On 28 June 2017 the Court heard the case of the Syrian girl Lyana (then 6 years old) who was bitten in the face by a pitbull. The pitbull’s owner had to appear in court on 28 June 2017. Despite surgery the girl will have permanent facial scars from the injuries she suffered.
Arlette Schijns and Aurélie van Dijk represent the young victim and her parents, who are severely traumatised. They had to stand by and watch how the dog repeatedly attacked their daughter. They were powerless as the girl was behind a fence and her parents could not reach her.
On 12 July 2017 the Court sentenced the pitbull’s owner to 180 hours of community service, awarding damages to Lyana and her parents. If you would like to read the sentence in full, click here.
