Ruling on appeal re. attack at Amsterdam Central Station
The Amsterdam Court of Appeal sentenced Jawed S. to 25 years’ non-suspended imprisonment for stabbing two American tourists at Amsterdam Central Station on 31 August 2018. Jawed S. also has to pay damages to the victims.
To the victim who suffered a spinal cord injury Jawed S. must pay almost € 3,000,000, of which € 230,000 for pain and suffering. In determining both the punishment and the damages, the Court of Appeal considered the severe impact of the attack on the victims and on society.
Two years after the stabbing, the victims still have to live every day with the pain and severe limitations caused by this terrorist attack, which also affected society as a whole.
